‘Eddie’ is not a cuddly as he seems.

People in Thailand, sharing a house with Eddie the bear were concerned when they were seeing beetles in their bedroom, on the bedding and on the pillow. The beetles were identified as Lasioderma serricorne (drug store beetle) – an insect associated with kitchens and commercial food premises.

Closer examination of ‘Eddie’ revealed beetles and larvae in the fur of the teddy bear.

After opening the back of the bear, a wheat grain filling inside the bear was found to be providing food and harbourage for the drug store beetle activity.
