Confirmed – Invasive Asian tiger Mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) is present in the UK

Public Health England (PHE) has reported that a monitoring project in Kent discovered a small number of eggs and larvae of the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) at an international truck stop in Ashford. Last year, eggs were detected near Stanford in Folkestone. It appears that trucks from Europe are helping the mosquitoes to become established.

Currently, there is no threat to public health, but the effects of mild seasonal temperatures and global warming, will mean Aedes albopictus is likely to spread within the UK.
