Allergy causing tick is spreading across the US

A bite from the ‘Lone star’ tick (Amblyomma americanum)can cause an allergy to meat (Alpha Gal syndrome). Symptoms of the allergy includes hives, shortness of breath and in some cases fainting.

Due to global warming, over the last five years the tick has rapidly spread across America from the South-eastern states, northwards to Long Island – where 100 cases were recorded last year…..
